The City of Dallas and DOWNTOWNDALLAS will open Main Street Garden, a full city-block park in the Central Business District, in October 2009. This public park will transform the newly created public space between the Municipal Building, 1900 Elm Lofts and the Universities Center of Dallas, the historic Mercantile Bank block and the old Statler Hilton.

The Statler Hilton has been vacant since 2001, when it was most recently named the Dallas Grand. It is in need of TEMPORARY artwork or structure that will mask parts of the empty shell, provide a pleasing view to park patrons, and reflect Downtown Dallas’ vibrancy.

Proposed designs may include: artwork, lighting, photography, banners, plex, plywood, etc. The design should cover the entire length of the first floor of the building, possibly extending to the second level depending on the vision.

The winner will most likely be commissioned. Once a design is selected, one round of modifications to fit the construction budget may be requested.

The winner will receive a prize package courtesy of DOWNTOWNDALLAS including an in-town get away at one of our premier hotels, gift certificates, dining and admission to multiple venues in the renowned Dallas Arts District. The winner will also be recognized in media outreach and at the grand opening of Main Street Garden.
